International Bacon Day: 3 Balinese Style Suckling Pig Places You Should Visit
02 Sep 2017INSPIRATIONBY SweetEscape

Babi guling is the Indonesian words for suckling pig. It is one of Bali’s famous dishes. You will see it on display as you go past the roads in Bali. The pig is stuffed with spices such as turmeric, lemongrass, black pepper, garlic, and coriander seeds. It is then traditionally spit-roasted for all to see. Most places serve a standard dish of rice with pork, but they also add their own twists in the side dishes.

Here are some of the places that serve it:

Babi Guling Pak Malen

This roadside warung (small eatery) is located in Seminyak. It serves rice with soup, minced pork satay, some pork chunks, crispy pork skin, and urap (Balinese vegetable salad).

Warung Babi Guling Sanur

Located opposite McDonald’s on the bypass. They serve a similar suckling pig dish, but with a different style of vegetable salad, bigger portion of pork meat, a small sausage, and better soup.

Babi Guling Ibu Oka

If you are in Ubud and craving for some pork, then come here! They see a huge number of customers so make sure you get there early. The dish is not as spicy as some of the others, maybe to accommodate the tourists who are not used to eating spicy. The downside is the price is more expensive.

Sari Kembar

Another place in Seminyak. This one is more of a warung nasi style because the options are: nasi campur, nasi pisah, nasi spesial, and nasi campur spesial, but they are generally served with pork.
