Cherry blossom season in Japan is always special for many people. Doing hanami (Cherry blossom viewing) in popular spots such as Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, or even places outside Japan such as Seoul, Taichung, or Paris becomes one of the top entries of everyone's bucket lists. However, we think that this year's cherry blossom season becomes a lot more special for Malaysian jewelry designer Huan Ooi! About one month before their recent Hanami trip to Tokyo, Huan contacted SweetEscape to plan a romantic surprise proposal to his girlfriend, Baby Akiyo.
Huan wanted to pop the question in a special way, so he decided to take the extra mile. Being a jeweller, Huan decided to design the proposal ring himself instead of getting one from a shop, making it all-the-more special.
To capture the moment, Huan's friends recommended SweetEscape, so he decided to follow their advise and contacted us. For over a month, Huan went back and forth with our Tokyo photographer Bram to iron out the details, making sure that everything would turn out perfect when the special day comes. As the big day fastly approaches, Huan became more and more nervous and anxious, but as he had planned it perfectly, he had nothing to worry about.
Finally, on March 28th, 2019 under the sakura tree, as the unsuspecting Akiyo was recording her vlog under the beautiful sakura trees, Huan approached her, took out the beautifully wrapped custom-made ring, bent his knee, and asked the big question...
And she said yes!
