Jakarta's Flood: How We Can Contribute To Flood Prevention
07 Jan 2020INSPIRATIONBY Natalia

SweetEscape is an on demand photography platform. If you're familiar with the geographical setting and structure of Indonesia, you're probably aware of the country's islands separated by massive bodies of surrounding water. In light of Jakarta's recent and most heaviest flood in its history, it's quite saddening that the city's island is slowly sinking and predicted to eventually be underwater if we don't make some major changes. If that doesn't raise your concern, the recent flood has taken away a significant number of innocent lives who never saw it coming.

If you truly care about your home and the city you live in, begin cherishing it for real by contributing to the city's maintenance. Everything is a process, and you could simply start by spreading the word to your closest ones to make small changes. All there is to it is the willingness to make those changes. The city is packed as it is, and its population is increasing rapidly in such a packed land space. Below are some little yet effective ways you can easily contribute to saving the environment for flood prevention. Remember, "the more the merrier", so gather your people and have them do it together with you!

1. Plastic Be Gone

Bring your own bag for grocery shopping, purchase eco-friendly homeware, avoid using takeaway plasticware and paper cups at your favorite coffee shops by investing on your own portable cup/mug/tumblr. While you're at it, say bye-bye to plastic straws as well - the turtles will be thanking you.

2. A Place For Everything and Everything In Its Place

Trash belongs in the garbage bin, and that should (hopefully) be your rule for life from now onwards. Differentiate between the organic and non-organic waste to aid in the processing of waste disposal.

3. Limit Your Water Usage

Water is an essential part of our lives, but as it is right now, the water drainages in Indonesia need lots of improvements. Avoid running water in your homes for too long in the shower or when you do your dishes; save water, save the planet!

4. Participate In Community Work

It's one thing to be doing those things alone, it's another to be doing things in a group of people, especially for a greater purpose. If you somehow decide to do some community work with your friends or with a volunteer group of people, make sure to capture those moments with SweetEscape. Trust us, you'll be glad to have memories of the little act of kindness you participated in to help save your environment on photographs.

5. Climate Change Awareness

The world is our home and ours to take care of. Our cars, industries, innovations are all slowly but surely hurting the world. Let's work together to lessen the usage of transportation, emission of carbon dioxide into the air and inappropriate littering.
