Rome Through the Eyes of the Locals
19 May 2017EXPLOREBY SweetEscape

Rome itself goes by a lot of names. The Eternal City, Caput Mundi and the City of God are only a few names that have been written throughout the history. Although some of those names are not the true representations of Rome anymore, the history remains forever true.

With so many palaces, churches, romantic ruins, opulent monuments, ornate statues and graceful fountains, Rome is filled with immensely rich historical heritage mixed with a cosmopolitan atmosphere. As many tourist flood the city to "do" Rome, we want to inspire you to see the city through the eyes of a local. Lucky for us, we have photographers who know the city like the back of their hands, and so we asked them to share a few places other than the Colloseum and the Pantheon that makes Rome feel the way it is.

Take Trastevere for an example. This part of Rome is filled with small streets, cute old facades and balconies with flowers that are perfect for a romantic dinner. Our photographers have recommended Trastevere as Rome’s most favorite neighborhood. Take a trip across the Tiber river and stroll around Trastevere’s nightlife and explore the hidden corners of Rome. For dinner, take your pick of trattorias, pizzerias or fine dining. Once your stomach is filled, take your loved ones to view the Ponte Sisto, a bridge that serves a sentimental picturesque view from the riverside.

Or take a visit to Piazza Navona, one of our photographer’s favorite spot to take photos in Rome. As you walk around the back, you will notice European style buildings that stand on the side of the streets of Piazza Navona. Walk around, take photos but don’t forget to toss a coin and make your wishes at the Piazza!

If you are an early riser, visit Castle San Angelo and Colosseum when the birds are flocking right after the sunrise. Your little effort to wake up early should be rewarded by alluring photos during the golden hour. Stay in the area for brunch and wait for the church bells to ring at 12.00 PM for a memorable and special moment.

So traveling with a local gives you a lot of local perspective that you wouldn’t get from the Internet. Another plus would be traveling with a local who is also a photographer! They can capture every beautiful moments you have and show you how locals enjoy their everyday lives in Rome. If you are planning to visit Rome anytime soon, get in touch with us so we can connect you with a guide and a friend who can also capture your sweetest moments.
