SweetLove with Andrea: 8 Marriage Proposal Ideas That Will Make You Say “Yes!” Faster Than He Could Get Down on His Knee
07 Sep 2018STORIESBY Andrea

Another Friday means another installment of SweetLove with Andrea. Today she's bringing some proposal ideas that are heartwarming and funny and simple and extravagant... Can we say, "YES!" now? Take it away, Andrea!

Hi everyone,

When you have found someone you would want to spend the rest of your life with, it is natural to be excited to dream about how your marriage proposal would be like. Hopefully, it is something you will only experience once in your lifetime, so you want it to be memorable. The only limit is your wild imagination. And budget, of course. Yesterday I asked my followers to share their wishful thinking, as well as how they actually got proposed, and here are eight funny, heartwarming marriage proposal ideas that will make your heart flutter and your mouth utter “Yes! Yes! Yes!”

Simple

I don’t want anything grand, I just want him to get down on his knee, holding a ring, saying he’s got my parents’ blessing and that it's okay for us to be together even though we're of a different religion and ethnicity.

Grand

He rented a chopper while we're in Tokyo. He kept holding my hand the whole time, and as we're descending, he quickly pulled out the ring and popped the question. Of course I said yes!

Straight forward

I prefer a practical kind of guy to a lovey-dovey guy. I want him to look me in the eye and straightforwardly tell me to go find a venue for us to hold our wedding reception at.

Logical

As an ENTJ, I wish he would come to me with a PowerPoint presentation on why we're a match, including data, strong arguments, case studies, solutions, and recommendations. Because I'm such a logical person and a marriage is a huge commitment, so I want to make sure I know what I'll be getting myself into.

Romantic

I wanted something romantic that's shared just between the two of us. Little did I know, he came to my house to meet my father, and told him he would like to marry me. I caught off guard, but it turns out it was the most romantic thing he'd ever done for me.

Public

My boyfriend and I work for the same company. I wish he would propose me in front of everyone during our daily group meeting.

Mornings

I wanted a simple proposal: no family and friends, no flash mob, no photographers, no down on one knee. I don't even care about rings, just ask me either in bed or sofa. One day I woke up to an envelope on the pillow next to me, saying “Read this first!” I opened it, it said “Will you marry me?” I said, “Are you serious??” He said, “Is that a yes?” I said, “Yes, of course!” It was nothing fancy, but it was perfect for me.

With A Budget

He randomly told me to create an income projection until 2019 and to send it by lunchtime. I was confused but I did it anyway because we're open about financial stuff. But before I could send it, he already sent me his income projection and budgeting for our wedding next year. Guess that's what happens when an auditor proposes an accountant.

The best way to experience the wonders of the canals of Amsterdam is by hopping on a boat and taking a boat tour. The beautiful and unique canal houses along the canals makes great setting for your family photo session. Your kids can also learn about the Netherlands' famous canals system from the guides!

2. Take A Bike (with Bakfiets) to Vondelpark

by Dennis + Dewi for SweetEscape in Amsterdam

A very Dutch way to get around Amsterdam is on bakfiets, a large bucket attached to the front of a bike, which your kids will definitely love! Let your kids to sit safely inside the bakfiets and cycle through Amsterdam's numerous bike-lanes to many interesting spots in and around the city, including Vondelpark, the largest park of the city with lots to offer for kids such as The Melkhuis, Kinderkookcafe (where children can cook little dishes while you enjoy a cup of coffee), and a lovely paddling pool. Check out these other great spots for cycling too!

3. Visit Museums

by Danny for SweetEscape in Amsterdam

The Netherlands produces some famous painters throughout history, and you can start to spark some creativity in your kids by taking them to some of these famous museum. The Van Gogh Museum is pleasantly light and modern, with paintings that are very colourful and accessible to children. The 17th Century Rembrandt House is also very interesting, giving us a glimpse of how Rembrandt (and other well-to-do Amsterdam inhabitants) lived in the ‘Golden Age’. Start nurturing the future artist in them!

4. Eating Pancakes at Nine Streets

by Roos for SweetEscape in Amsterdam

The Nine Streets is another interesting place to visit. These nine little streets are filled with small and unique shops, ranging from fashion boutiques, to art stores, and even a toothbrush shop! One of the best places to take your kids to in the Nine Streets is Pancakes Amsterdam Negen Straatjes, a pancake shop that offers a world-wide variety of pancakes, including Dutch's famous pannekoek!

5. King's Day!

by Danny for SweetEscape in Amsterdam

Unique to Spring, The King's Day is a festival to celebrate the birthday King Willem-Alexander, the current ruling monarch, and is held every April 27th. Cycle past the spectacle with your kids on the Bakfiets (see number 2!) and let them take it the explosion of bright orange colours throughout the city, or take part in a plethora of activities and fun games in the many carnivals and pop-up markets around Amsterdam and many other cities!
