CNN Indonesia's former journalist, Apsy Soerjodibroto is currently a blog writer on popular social media platform, Instagram, and covers various life topics and inspiring women from all over the world. For her latest blog segment, #PerempuanSeries, Apsy Soerjodibroto selected a group of female musicians known as NonaRia due to their inspiring art.
1. What is #perempuanseries? Why was #perempuanseries established, and what was its purpose?
The beginning of how #PerempuanSeries came to be was at a time that I was still working in Singapore. I have come across many opportunities of meeting women from different countries with different stories that are intriguing, empowering and also inspiring. Topics that I have covered range from family, racism to challenges in adjusting to the working life as expats. The first social media platform that I used was Instagram, and due to the positive responses and followers, I have decided to elaborate further into longer articles.
2. What was the reason behind choosing NonaRia for your interview?
NonaRia is a group of humble women, and they really take it seriously when it comes to their music, making it sound beautifully entertaining with simple lyrics to follow. Despite the simplicity of their songs, their pieces have strong messages; that happiness and love should be simple. They had won AMI awards for Best Vocal Jazz in 2018, competing with those who have been in the industry for years. That's quite awesome for a newcomer!
3. Is it important to document an event using a professional photographer?
It is! Often times I become too pre-occupied with what I would like to say as well as the theme of conversation, causing me to neglect the visual aspect of the event.
