“It all began with an honest confession.
In late 2015, I went out on a year-end dinner with a bunch of friends from my bible study community. Angga was also there. We had been around each other many times before, but this time around we were sharing personal stories and looking back on the year that would soon come to an end. I told them truthfully how terrible and disappointing the year was for me – I'd been denied a health care program in the United States for my Multiple Sclerosis and I'd quit my job too. After the dinner, Angga unexpectedly gave me a call and we ended up talking for about 5 hours. It felt like talking to my best friend. Later on I found out that he felt compelled to reach out to me after hearing my story during the dinner.
Our relationship did not begin officially until about 5 months after that phone call. It wasn’t easy because I had to be absolutely sure that he was serious, able and willing to deal with me. I also consulted those closest to me about the relationship. Thankfully, many showed us their support and offered their prayers. I must say that being with him is one of the best decisions I’ve made in my life. We have our common grounds but we’re also different: I’m shy and I tend to overthink, he helps me relax and take things easy. Meanwhile, Angga is not a good planner, but I am. We balance each other out, and it’s not only in a figurative sense
It has been 22 months since our first date, we're about to tie the knot this year in May (on the exact date that we started our relationship) and I'm constantly touched to see the sincerity. The selflessness he has consistently shown from the beginning of our relationship until now. He is never embarrassed to go out with me even when I'm on my walker, and I often trip and fall. He always helps to push my walker whenever I get tired of walking. His positivity and acceptance makes me feel safe and energised. When I was first diagnosed with this condition, I questioned whether there would be a special man with unconditional love that can dispel my doubts and captivate my heart. I found the answer in Angga.” - Winda Napitupulu
