June means Summer is here, and summer usually means long holiday, travels, and beaches! And yet, like so many things, this year's summer will be totally different than the previous ones. No longer can we travel to distant countries to enjoy the culture and the sights, and no matter how much you've exercised while being stuck at home for months, you can't show off your beach bods on the beaches, since most of them are still closed.
Good news is, some countries have started opening up their borders and relaxing their quarantine protocols, but we know that it's still too soon to travel as safely and carefreely as we used to be. Most of us would have to spend the summer of 2020 inside our homes, and with that in mind, we have five summer flicks you can watch on Netflix at home, while reminiscing the beauty of summer we once had, and will undoubtedly soon have again in the future. Sit back, grab some snacks, and enjoy these summer flicks we've picked out for you!
If you really miss traveling, then this is the show you must watch. Somebody Feed Phil is a docuseries where the host, Phil Rosenthal–hence the title–, travels all over the world from Marrakesh to Bangkok to Hanoi to Lisbon to Cape Town to New Orleans and New York and a lot of other exciting cities. His goal? To try out the different food culture of each city he visited! How cool is that? Along the way, he meets with locals and food experts which educate him more on the culture of cuisine in the cities.
What is the reason that we love this show so much? Most of the cities he visited are on our list of cities! When it's safe to travel again, use this show as a guide for your to try out the different food establishments in the cities, and don't forget to book your SweetEscape session there while doing so! We guarantee that your trips will be memorable as you bring home the flavour of each city you visited.
Set in New York City, Set It Up is a film about two young workaholic New Yorkers. Sounds familiar? The show stars Zoey Deutch and Glenn Powell as the two assistants, working for the characters played by Lucy Liu and Taye Diggs respectively. They tried to set their bosses up to like each other so that they could have a little free time, but ended up falling for each other themselves. A little advice: You might want to watch this movie while eating pizza (you'll know why).
Many of the scenes in this movie was shot around the streets of Fifth Avenue and the beauty of Central Park New York, so the next time you visit the Big Apple, why not recreate some of the scenes here and capture the moments with SweetEscape? We'll make sure that your visit to New York be a memorable one.
This is quite a recent addition to the Netflix library. Starring legends like Tina Fey, Amy Poehler (who also directed and produced the movie), and Maya Rudolph, the movie tells a story of a girl squad celebrating a birthday while traveling together, to the beautiful Napa Valley itself, the titular 'wine country'. This is surely a great feel-good movie to welcome summer!
Sitting North of San Francisco, Napa County is known for hundreds of hillside vineyards in the Napa Valley wine region. Don't forget to visit Oxbow Public Market, which features regional gourmet food, and board The Napa Valley Wine Train, a vintage locomotive and traveling restaurant running through the valley. Also, book your session in Napa Valley to capture some of the unique experiences you have there!
Mamma Mia, and its sequel (after ten years!) Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again, are the ultimate summer flick, as agreed by our team here in SweetEscape! If you've watched them, we believe you would agree too; set in a Greek island during a memorable summer, celebrating weddings with family and past lovers, with a little spice of all the dramas behind it, plus all of the classic ABBA songs to tell the stories are just the right recipe for a great summer movie! It does help that the setting is extremely beautiful as well, with golden beaches, beautiful Greek houses and shops, and the glistening sea... Summer musicals just don't get any better than this!
Of course, Mamma Mia and its sequel were set in a fictional Greek island, but you can always recreate the scenes from the movie in an equally stunning Greek island destination: the magnificent Santorini! One of our team members is still lamenting the fact that he was supposed to visit this beautiful island last April before the pandemic struck, but we're hopeful that soon in the future we–and he as well–would all get the chance to spend a beautiful summer weekend in this world-famous island. Santorini is one of the most beautiful places in the world to have your SweetEscape session, so don't forget to book yours before going here!
By the time this article is posted, the show hasn't even aired yet on Netflix, but judging from the trailer we've seen, we can't wait for June 26th to come! This docuseries stars two Asian pop icon, Lee Seung-gi from South Korea and Jasper Liu from Taiwan. Together–or should we say TWOgether–they are exploring Asia and connect with fans and local cultures from the cities we visited. Make sure to set your Netflix reminder on June 26th to catch this interesting couple's journey!
The thing that stood out from the trailer is that apart from the many Asian cities Seung-gi and Jasper visited, they spent quite some interesting moments in Borobudur Temple in Yogyakarta and Garuda Wisnu Kencana statue in Bali, both in Indonesia! These two places are the perfect spot for a more traditional yet majestic photo shoots, so book your SweetEscape session the next time you visit these popular tourist destinations!
We can't wait to be able to travel the world again! With hope and a little luck, we're sure that it will happen soon enough. Until then, stay safe and healthy, and we'll soon have your moments #CapturedPerfectly with SweetEscape again!
