5 Seemingly Old Traditions We Desperately Need to Keep In This Modern Time
02 Sep 2019INSPIRATIONBY SweetEscape

As we move forward with our lives, and the past is left further behind - we tend to forget and grow out of certain habits and traditions. It's totally human and understandable, because as we grow older we are faced with even more challenging situations and lessons that most of the time cause us to steer away from the good things that have been taught.

Traditions, are there and have been there for a reason. If you feel that you've lost touch with that side of yours, don't worry! SweetEscape has come up with several old but simply great traditions for you to hopefully consider to bring back to the present day. If there is a will... there is definitely a way! You'll be glad to know that most of these traditions spread kindness in the simplest but highly effective ways. Do read on and give them a try!

1. Saying Sorry - Even For Times You're Not In The Wrong

When it comes to saying sorry, people would have different perspectives on it - and we're not surprised as to why. Some people strongly believe that apologies are the responsibility of whoever is in the wrong. We agree, there's a lot of truth to that... but to some extent. Remember those days when you used to fight with your siblings over your toys? Or, maybe a flashback to your up and down relationship with your bestfriend because of the differing opinions you had with one another?

We sure don't wish upon it, but for the next time you face mishaps with someone in your life - be the bigger person and say your apologies first. There's really nothing to lose! The art of saying sorry is a lot deeper than meets the eye. It's able to (when said in the right manner)

2. Saying Thank You

A simple phrase such as "thank you" never hurt anyone. If you think about it, each time you say thank you, you end up putting smiles on people's faces. We know, many of you have probably been taught to say thank you from when you were still small. But, whether you realize it or not, we forget those good habits throughout the many phases of growing up.

Try to think about it, have you noticed the looks on people's faces when you thank them for their small gestures? Surely they're happier compared to when you don't say nothing at all. Whether it be a gesture as simple as a stranger opening the doors for you, or the waiter waiting on your table...

3. Being Grateful For The Little Things

Life can get tough on us sometimes, and it's only human that we tend to forget to be grateful for even the little things. Perhaps your phone isn't as expensive as the latest Samsung or Iphone out there. Try to look at things from a different angle. What about those who don't have cellphones at all? Or maybe you've been feeling bummed about the house you live in - how there seems to be way too many things all around the house. What about those who don't even have a place to live to begin with?

When you learn to be grateful for even the littlest things, you'll notice how you become more of a positive person - causing you to not only have better days ahead, but affecting also the lives of others in your surroundings! We feel that this should definitely be something practiced more and again by people.

4. Greeting People - Even Strangers

Have you ever been on an elevator, and suddenly someone random enters and smiles at you for no reason other than to just greet another fellow human being? Your reaction was probably a huge smile in return, feeling puzzled all the while happy to be greeted by a total stranger. Did you know that people who smile more tend to have happier and more positive days? With that said, we would like to encourage you to practice greeting strangers with a simple friendly smile or a quick hello.

5. Respecting The Elderly

Remember how back in the olden days, the elderly would really have an important and respectable place in society? They were looked after, cared for and honored for the many things they have gone through in their past - contributing to the world that you live in now. Compared to the present day, you'll find mrore and more that the elderly are being left out and underappreciated. With that said, SweetEscape finds it a great opportunity to bring back and continue that tradition of respecting the older generation.
