FOTTO is here to support your businesses by creating impactful visuals to help you engage your potential customers better. For those of you taking photos of your homemade products right now, here's a few pro tips from our expert in FOTTO!

1. Lighting is Everything!

When not shooting in a proper photo studio, the biggest challenge has to be lighting. Of course very rarely do people have professional lighting equipment at home, and this could make a big difference in your photos. We would recommend you to choose a photo spot around your house with natural lighting, possibly by a large window or outdoors in the terrace or balcony during day time. That way the products will have enough lights to make all the details look nice and sharp! You can also use your phone's flashlight to enhance the exposure and brightness of your products.

2. Make Use of Colour

Make sure your products have a balanced colour combination. Too much of one colour will make the photos look dull and uninteresting. For food products, try adding contrasting colours to your main ingredients; for example if your food product is predominantly green, try adding red to the mix through a dash of paprika or a slice of red chilli pepper. It will surely make your photos look nicer.

3. Props, Props, Props!

Choose props that enhance and complement your products visually. These props are actually easy to find in our homes, where you can use your chopping boards, knives, utensils, or napkins to create a simple yet nice set up for your product shoots. You can also make use of your home's interior design as your photo spot. This would make your photos to have that extra special look. To be safe, use a white sheet or paper to act as a backdrop for your photos.
