For Jakarta's urban citizens facing stress and pressure every day, spending time with their loved ones is always a precious opportunity. Fortunately, living in a megapolitan like Jakarta offers a plethora of activities to choose from to relax and refresh one's mind with friends and family. New cafés sprung up every now and then to try on, and staycation in boutique hotel inside the city is always a good option. These are many opportunities to create beautiful moments worthy to be captured.
David Soong, the Founder & CEO of SweetEscape said, “Being a photographer myself for over 20 years, I have had the opportunity to capture some of the most beautiful and precious moments of people's lives, moments impossible to repeat or recreate. This makes me believe firmly that special moments can happen anytime--not just on some big occasions, but even ordinary, weekend moments with your family can be special and unforgettable."
On October 9th, 2019, SweetEscape and several members of the media along with several social media influencers from the capital city, went on an exploratory walk accross the city. We started at the Gelora Bung Karno Aquatic Stadium, a 24.000 square metre water sports arena at the center of Jakarta that acted as one of the venues for the much-celebrated Asian Games 2018. The vast swimming pool and majestic all-white spectator tribune made for the perfect minimalist-modern setting for photo shoots.
Moving West, SweetEscape visited the suprise-filled Jakarta's Chinatown. Not many skyscrapers in this part of the city, but the charm of old Dutch colonial architectures and distinctly Chinese shophouses in Petak Sembilan Market was trully unforgettable. One of the most attractive of them all is the historic Candra Naya Building, an old oriental house standing proud amidts the modern, tall hotel and apartment building in Jalan Gajah Mada 188. This irregular placement is only one of Canda Naya's many hidden beauty of old Indonesian Chinese heritage.
Resting for a cup of coffee milk in the Old City quarters of Jakarta, we went to Acaraki Jamu Cafe which sells jamu, the traditional Indonesian (mostly Javanese) health potions. The cafe provides a modern concept to the whole jamu experience, while still highlighting its cultural heritage. The café's vintage interior also acts as a good place to capture some great photos with your loved ones.
To experience one of Jakarta's options for staycation, we visited Hotel Le Meridien Jakarta, located in the busy Sudirman Street, where you can enjoy a world-class rooms and services, while taking in all the gigantic skyscrapers of the Jakarta skyline. To end the day, we dined at Al Nafoura Lebanese Restaurant for a little Middle-Eastern taste.
