Arabian Nights! With dazzling musical numbers, epic dances, spectacular set and costumes, and of course the classic songs, Aladdin–the newly released Disney live-action musical–is quickly becoming one of our all-time favourites! The mystical and magical city of Agrabah is of course fictional, but that doesn't stop us from wanting to recreate the beautiful moments from the movie. So let's start channeling our inner Princess Jasmine and check out these amazing places in the Arabian gulf and... come on down, stop on by, hop on a carpet (or a plane in this case) and fly, to another Arabian night!
Do you trust me? Carpets, spices, textiles, antiques, perfumes, and maybe a magic lamp? The streets and markets of Agrabah is where the story of Aladdin starts, as it is the place where Aladdin and the disguised Princess Jasmine met (and fell in love) for the first time. The market is extremely colourful and arguably Agrabah's heart and soul.
Just as the market in Agrabah, the souks of Dubai are extremely diverse and epic. The souks are segmented into many different specialities, each selling selected and specific items. Visit the Gold Souk to shop for beautiful jewelries, then follow your nose to the Spice Souk very close nearby to be instantly transported to the hustle of top chefs, home cooks and savvy expats, all swearing by their personal picks among the Spice Souk's colourful sacks of spices, herbs, rice and fruit such as saffron, dates, and the lot.
Follow the road up from the Gold and Spice Souks, and you'll find yourself in Deira’s Perfume Souk on Sikkat Al Khali Street. Dealing in everything scented, from pure perfume to essential oils, incense sticks and the exotic traditional oud, this trading spot has beautifully-fragranced options for all. On the Bur Dubai side of the Creek you’ll discover the colourful Textile Souk, boasting a vast array of shops are crowded with rolls of fabric, including fine silks, airy cottons, exotic palm frond weaves, and dazzling sari fabrics.
Arabian nights, 'Neath Arabian moons. A fool off his guard could fall and fall hard out there on the dunes. The desert in the world of Aladdin is beautiful yet dangerous, with many crooks, wild beasts, and strange magic lurking behind every dune. Luckily for our hero, he was accompanied by the trusty Genie during his time out there on the dune.
Although in the movie the desert scenes were filmed in the now-famous Wadi Rum area of Jordan, we would like to recommend you to go to Abu Dhabi instead! Also known by its Arabic name–Rub al Khali–the Empty Quarter at Abu Dhabi in United Arab Emirates is as huge as it is ancient. Boasting a stretch of uninterrupted sand desert, it carries a tale of history as old as time involving adventurers, nomads and kings. It’s no wonder that many travelers are intrigued to visit for a journey back in time.
Rub al Khali is indeed an experience that is otherworldly and inspiring. Some of the best outdoor camping in the world can be found here, where it’s almost pollution and concrete free. There isn’t many places left in the world where you can sleep under the stars, but this is certainly one of them, and don't worry, it's perfectly safe.
Tell me, Princess, now when did you last let your heart decide? Princess Jasmine might feel like she's imprisoned inside the beautiful imperial palace of Agrabah, unable to escape and to see the world until 'Prince Ali' came and took her on a magic carpet ride to a whole new world, but that doesn't mean that the palace itself is a bad place to be, with opulent ornaments and ornate architecture details, it is a place of dreams.
Just as the Royal Palace in Agrabah, the city of Marrakech also offers a royal experience for tourists from everywhere, and makes a great setting for your SweetEscape photo session! Visit Royal Mansour Marrakech to recreate most of the palatial beauty of Agrabah. Set on landscaped grounds, this opulent luxury hotel is 14 minutes' walk from Jemaa el-Fnaa, a lively square in Marrakesh's Medina (old city), and 5 km from Marrakesh Menara Airport.
Only one may enter here. One whose worth lies far within. A diamond in the rough. The warnings from the magically speaking Cave of Wonders is to be heed upon, for after entering the cave, one will be enticed by all the most beautiful and desirable treasures, golds, and jewelries one could ever want, while the ONLY thing worthy of attention is actually the old but magical lamp that sits in the center of the cave. Many have tried and failed, until Aladdin entered and managed to take the magical lamp and meet the Genie.
Want to take beautiful pictures in equally stunning caves? Then you must visit Cappadocia in Turkey! Of course there won't be any magical lamp or powerful Genie, but coming to Cappadocia is still almost like visiting another planet. The landforms are so unique that it’s hard to believe they really exist until you see them with your own eyes. Visit the beautifully carved caves in the mountains, and get an aerial view out of the entire region by going on a must-try hot air balloon ride!
