Amsterdam in Spring: Tips and Tricks From Our Local Photographer
15 Mar 2019IDEASBY SweetEscape

With more than 2000 photographers around the world, we always like to talk to our photographers for some tips and tricks that only a local would know. For our Amsterdam edition, we asked our Amsterdam-based photographer Andy Hendrata to share his knowledge about springtime in the city known as the 'Venice of The North'.

1. Visit Timing

by Andy for SweetEscape in Amsterdam

For a nice weather and a chance to catch the flowers (including tulips) in their full bloom, visit Amsterdam during late March to early May. If you visit Amsterdam during April, you can catch the Tulip Festival, held around town in various locations such as the EYE Filmmuseum, Hermitage Amsterdam, Hortus Botanicus, Museum Van Loon, and Rijksmuseum. For travelling families, don't forget to take your kids to do some of these exciting activities in Amsterdam!

2. Check The Weather

by Andy for SweetEscape in Amsterdam

Although the weather is usually quite nice during Spring, Dutch weather can be quite unpredictable. Make sure that you always check the weather (and flower forecast) when visiting Amsterdam, and pack your clothes accordingly!

3. Explore Amsterdam by Bike

by Danny for SweetEscape in Amsterdam

As you might already know, Amsterdam is also famous for being the world's most-bike-friendly city, and it really is nice to go around on a bike in Spring! Go early in the morning to avoid crowded bike-lanes, and take your bike to visit some of these stunning spots in and around Amsterdam!

4. Wear Orange

by Danny for SweetEscape in Amsterdam

The colour orange and The Netherlands are synonymous, and anytime is a good time to wear orange in Amsterdam! This Spring, orange is especially dominant during King's Day, which falls on April 27th. In this nation-wide annual festival to celebrate King Willem-Alexander's birthday, everybody will take to the streets and have fun, wearing orange from top-to-toe! Be sure to pack some bright orange outfits before visiting Amsterdam this spring!

Sam YG Talks About His Love for Travelling and Shares Some Travel-Tips with Us
20 Sep 2019STORIESBY SweetEscape

Filipino radio and television personality Sam YG (short for Samir Young Guy), recently went to Bangkok with his college friends, had a photoshoot with SweetEscape, and the photos were simply amazing!

Sam has always expressed his love to go around the Philippines on his motorbike and on roadtrips, or out of the country. He said that he always tries to plan big trips every year and little trips throughout the year, and always felt lucky because working and travelling goes hand-in-hand for him because he hosts a lot of events in and out of Metro Manila.

We managed to talk to Sam about his love for travelling and his experience with SweetEscape.

1. What are some of the things people would be surprised to know about you?

I'm into sports a lot, so I've done triathlon, I love motorsports and I love a good sense of adventure. I like to go around on my motorbike, drive all the way up to the northern Philippines, taking up to 10 hours. I'm a very free-spirited person.

I'm also a very cerebral person! Although you see me talk a lot because it's part of my job, when I'm at home I'm actually very quiet.

2. Was it your first time in Bangkok?

by Bonny for SweetEscape in Bangkok

No... It was actually my third or fourth time, but it was my first time with my college berkadas (squad), and I always believe that person you're with sets the tone of the trip.

3. Any tip for first-timers?

When you go to a new city or country, it's always good to do a Google research beforehand. Make sure you know where you're going to: Research the top 10 attractions or restaurants; you don't have to do everything or go to every place, but find the ones that fit you personality / lifestyle.

It is also always good to find good balance between relaxing and sight-seeing. You don't want to be too tired when you get back from the vacation or you might need a vacation from your vacation. Take your travel essentials and a camera is a must! Take good photos of your travels to re-live the memories.

4. What do you like the most of your recent Bangkok trip?

by Bonny for SweetEscape in Bangkok

Like I said, it was the first time me and my college berkadas went on a trip outside of the Philippines, and it makes the trip extra special. It's good to reconnect after more than 10 years graduating, talking about each other's life and it was awesome.

5. Any particular spot that people must visit in Bangkok?

by Bonny for SweetEscape in Bangkok

Bangkok has so much energy, so much to see, so much to do, and when you go there you'd always want to go back for more. Wat Pho is a must, also the nightlife scene in Bangkok is interesting. Khao San Road was pretty good. Floating Market is a must-visit, and the Chatuchak Market! You get so much good deals on clothing and accessories and a lot of other stuffs.

6. What Are The Places on Your Travel Bucket List?

by Bonny for SweetEscape in Bangkok

Still so much. I want to visit South America. I've been to Europe a few times. Earlier this year I was in Africa for the first time; I checked out Zimbabwe, Namibia, South Africa... But I think the next place I would like to cross out of my travel bucket list would be South America: Argentina, Brazil, the lot.

7. Where have you been this year?

A lot of Asia trips; Japan, Singapore. I was also around the Philippines. The biggest trip was I guess was South Africa. I went to Johannesburg, Cape Town, and I checked out Table Mountain, Angel's Falls, and it was beautiful.

8. How was your experience booking SweetEscape?

by Bonny for SweetEscape in Bangkok

It was my first time booking SweetEscape, and it was such a breeze. It was pretty much done in a day. I wanted some good photos of me and my friends, and I booked it a day before, and lo and behold the next day I met a great photographer from SweetEscape who could also suggest to us the nice spots to shoot. The photographer was super easy to work with, and it was super easy to book a photographer with SweetEscape and the shots were amazing. Everything was done in an hour. The memories are gonna be there and it just makes the experience a lot more solid.

So, I gotta say SweetEscape gets the job done, and the best part is you get these memories with you captured in these awesome shots. You don't have to worry about the angle, the location, because they do everything for you! So am I gonna do it again? Hell yeah!
