The best way to experience the wonders of the canals of Amsterdam is by hopping on a boat and taking a boat tour. The beautiful and unique canal houses along the canals makes great setting for your family photo session. Your kids can also learn about the Netherlands' famous canals system from the guides!

2. Take A Bike (with Bakfiets) to Vondelpark

by Dennis + Dewi for SweetEscape in Amsterdam

A very Dutch way to get around Amsterdam is on bakfiets, a large bucket attached to the front of a bike, which your kids will definitely love! Let your kids to sit safely inside the bakfiets and cycle through Amsterdam's numerous bike-lanes to many interesting spots in and around the city, including Vondelpark, the largest park of the city with lots to offer for kids such as The Melkhuis, Kinderkookcafe (where children can cook little dishes while you enjoy a cup of coffee), and a lovely paddling pool. Check out these other great spots for cycling too!

3. Visit Museums

by Danny for SweetEscape in Amsterdam

The Netherlands produces some famous painters throughout history, and you can start to spark some creativity in your kids by taking them to some of these famous museum. The Van Gogh Museum is pleasantly light and modern, with paintings that are very colourful and accessible to children. The 17th Century Rembrandt House is also very interesting, giving us a glimpse of how Rembrandt (and other well-to-do Amsterdam inhabitants) lived in the ‘Golden Age’. Start nurturing the future artist in them!

4. Eating Pancakes at Nine Streets

by Roos for SweetEscape in Amsterdam

The Nine Streets is another interesting place to visit. These nine little streets are filled with small and unique shops, ranging from fashion boutiques, to art stores, and even a toothbrush shop! One of the best places to take your kids to in the Nine Streets is Pancakes Amsterdam Negen Straatjes, a pancake shop that offers a world-wide variety of pancakes, including Dutch's famous pannekoek!

5. King's Day!

by Danny for SweetEscape in Amsterdam

Unique to Spring, The King's Day is a festival to celebrate the birthday King Willem-Alexander, the current ruling monarch, and is held every April 27th. Cycle past the spectacle with your kids on the Bakfiets (see number 2!) and let them take it the explosion of bright orange colours throughout the city, or take part in a plethora of activities and fun games in the many carnivals and pop-up markets around Amsterdam and many other cities!
