For our Amsterdam edition, we asked our Amsterdam-based photographer Andy Hendrata to share his knowledge about springtime in the city known as the 'Venice of The North'.
1. Visit Timing
For a nice weather and a chance to catch the flowers (including tulips) in their full bloom, visit Amsterdam during late March to early May. If you visit Amsterdam during April, you can catch the Tulip Festival, held around town in various locations such as the EYE Filmmuseum, Hermitage Amsterdam, Hortus Botanicus, Museum Van Loon, and Rijksmuseum. For travelling families, don't forget to take your kids to do some of these exciting activities in Amsterdam!
2. Check The Weather
Although the weather is usually quite nice during Spring, Dutch weather can be quite unpredictable. Make sure that you always check the weather (and flower forecast) when visiting Amsterdam, and pack your clothes accordingly!
3. Explore Amsterdam by Bike
As you might already know, Amsterdam is also famous for being the world's most-bike-friendly city, and it really is nice to go around on a bike in Spring! Go early in the morning to avoid crowded bike-lanes, and take your bike to visit some of these stunning spots in and around Amsterdam!
4. Wear Orange
The colour orange and The Netherlands are synonymous, and anytime is a good time to wear orange in Amsterdam! This Spring, orange is especially dominant during King's Day, which falls on April 27th. In this nation-wide annual festival to celebrate King Willem-Alexander's birthday, everybody will take to the streets and have fun, wearing orange from top-to-toe!
