5 Ways To Spend Your Christmas
29 Nov 2019INSPIRATIONBY SweetEscape

SweetEscape is an on demand photography platform. Christmas is just around the corner, and it's most certainly one of the most festive holidays around as of yet! When you hear the word Christmas, for some reason you could smell the faint delicious smell of warm vanilla cookies, cinnamon fragrance filling the air and home cooked meals that make Christmas even more legit. If you grew up celebrating Christmas ever year, chances are that you realize there's just something about the whole Christmas ordeal that manages to melt your heart and take you to so many warm and fuzzy places in your memories. However, Christmas can feel a bit too repetitive if the same things are done over again each year. SweetEscape has come up with 5 great ways on how you can switch it up a bit and spend your Christmas in a better way, read on below!

1. Spend it with the less fortunate

If you were raised by old-school, traditional parents, then perhaps you have already received the "Christmas is about sharing" lesson. But, most often than not, you would end up sharing with your own family. Mysterious presents under the Christmas tree from a secret santa (who is most like your mom or dad), opening them up together and getting all excited because you got what you wished for; this takes away a lot of what Christmas means. So, for once, go ahead and do something different. Like what, you ask? You could easily share with those who are far more in need than your inner circle. If you are an active consumer and generallly the type to spend lavishly, do the opposite this Christmas, and you'll feel a whole lot better about yourself, trust us! Donate to a local charity, or, even better, spend some time at your local nursing home or orphanage. They too, need love. So, spread some love to those in need this year, and your life will turn out for the better.

2. Re-visit your favorite childhood go-to holiday places

Sit back and refresh your memories for a second. Was there one specific place that you would always go to for your Christmas holiday? Perhaps it was your grandparents' house, and you just haven't been around because life has just been, well, hectic. Or maybe, you used to go to your favorite family lodge overlooking the beautiful hills of an area surrounded by mountains and bodies of water. Ringing any bells yet? Whether it has been decades or years ago, you still have the chance to re-visit your favorite family holiday spot to bring those memories back to life. You'll probably notice that certain places have some sort of connection with you that you just can't understand. It could be as simple as a local diner or family restaurant, and yet, you just feel like home each time you go. Cheers, to making more memories!

3. Remake family photos from the past

Look around in your home, or, if you're a total grown up and happen to have moved out of your parents', pay them a visit and look at all the photos you've taken together. In fact, it's been quite new trend that people have been following and can actually be quite fun! Perhaps you've got some family photos that were taken together where all of you wore uniform clothing or the extra-looking Christmas sweaters that you wouldn't be caught dead wearing around your friends in school. Now that you're all grown up, you start to miss those silly moments, because as embarrassing as they were... they're still memories, after all.

4. Celebrate it somewhere entirely new

Instead of going somewhere you often visit or has been your family tradition spot, try going somewhere totally new that you've never been to ever before. If you're planning on going with your family, gather them and do some brainstorming together. Find out where everyone would like to go, and from there, compromise on a place where all of you would enjoy going for the first time. The same applies if you're going with friends or your loved one(s). If you're used to going somewhere cold for Christmas, try going somewhere a little warmer... the exotic Carribbean seas, maybe? You get the idea, it's never a bad idea to try out something new, and who knows, you might even learn a new culture or two!

5. Do a stay-home celebration for a jolly good time

This might be more suitable for you homebodies out there, because there really is no place like home. If you decide to do a stay-at-home kind of Christmas, we've got some ideas for you to Christmas it up a bit so that it doesn't feel so bland. Head on over to Bath and Body Works and invest on some Christmas-y candles such as gingerbread cookies, vanilla-cinnamon mint or anything that would create the heavenly scent of home baking.
