What is important in each of his paintings is the fluidity and elegance to suggest the movement of life: the beginning, the journey, the ups and downs, the failures, the challenges, the triumphs, and finally the end. Romie explained, “I simply want the audience to feel the movement, the tranquility and the journey of the movement.”
Through his paintings, Romie wants to emphasize where he came from. Since Indonesia consists of water by 62% and land by 38%, he named some of his artworks series such as AQUA, OLIVE, and TERRA, each representing the beauty of earth’s elements.
He also shared the source of inspiration for his style. “After completing my formal education, I explored several countries in Asia, and was captivated by the quality, meticulousness, and diligence of Japanese artists. Spending one year in Japan, I learned the art of Suminagashi and Shodō from plenty of Japanese artists and studios, which shaped the fluidity and flowy quality of my painting to date.”
