Since joining us in October 2019, Cindy Kalensang have been striving to create new breakthroughs for SweetEscape. Not only that, Cindy as our VP of Product Management is a living proof that females can also hold important positions in the technology industry. In light of the recent International Woman's Day 2020, we talked to Cindy about listening to female voices in tech industry.
When she joined SweetEscape initially, she felt that numerous stakeholders in SweetEscape haven't really understood the role of product management. So, the first thing that she did was to educate us the many possiblities that could be achieved through product management, and how product management could be a bridge between the business-side and the tech-side, as well as to customers. Cindy firmly believed that a product's main purpose is to serve the customer, so she felt we really needed to understand the customer's needs first before creating our business plan.
Through her work as VP of Product Management, Cindy provides solutions to our existing problems, as well as creating a culture where product development process is maximized.
“I think SweetEscape is one of the companies that are doing real action to enforce gender equality. We have three VPs in SweetEscape, and two out of three are women. More than that, I can feel that in every leadership meeting with SweetEscape, we have equal amount of male and female leaders," said Cindy. "Beyond that, our customers are predominantly female, so it makes sense that SweetEscape is listening to female's voice."
Cindy believes that it is important to have more female leaders in companies to make sure that female voice is heard. "You have to get yourself 'on the table' as a woman. If there are no chairs available, then bring your own chair! Don't wait for others to get it for you," she said. "We have to make sure that our voice and opinion is heard". Every company needs a lot of perspectives to move forward, and one of the most important perspectives is female's.
“I’m a female in a male-dominated industry, and I am able to reach this career level. I hope that my story would inspire other women to take on this career path, and I believe that women can be leaders too," explained Cindy.
