Ramadan during COVID-19: Different Ways to Connect with Your Loved Ones
27 Apr 2020INSPIRATIONBY Ezra

Ramadan in Indonesia has exceeded mere religious practice, it is part of the Indonesian culture and tradition. For an entire month, Muslims across the globe are fasting not just from food, but from all negative things; but more than that, Ramadan is a time for goodness and togetherness with family and loved ones.

As we enter the Holy Month of Ramadan during this unprecedented COVID-19 outbreak and subsequent extended quarantine, here are a few tips to keep connected with your loved ones during the month we've compiled for you!

1. Iftar Together at Home with Your Family

One good thing about this COVID-19 quarantine period is that everyone is at home all the time. That means we can do our iftar break fasting together with the family without having some family members (or even yourself) stuck at traffic coming home from office! This is a good time to share stories, laugh together, and strengthen our bond with the family, and we believe coming out of this our family will be stronger than ever!

2. Iftar Together at Home... Online!

Ramadan usually is a time for gatherings and reunions with our friends from school or a bukber (Celebrating Iftar Together) with your company. This year, we missed the opportunity to do so, but we can still meet up for iftar together with friends or long distanced family members online! Apps such as Zoom, Google Hangouts, or even WhatsApp call can be great alternatives in these strange times. Decide on what food to order or cook, and eat together with your friends while video calling! Let's stay creative, Escapists!

3. Make Something to Be Shared

More than just online gatherings, iftar and sahoor, Ramadan is the perfect opportunity to do good! Do some wardrobe cleaning and take out those still good looking pants, outers, and tops that no longer fit to you and you can pack them nicely to give to the less fortunate! If you're talented in the kitchen, why not bake some cookies or cook some takjil (break fasting food) and share them with the delivery workers or security guards around your residence? We can show our appreciation to their hard work by the simplest things.

4. Learn Some New Recipes Online (or Make One Yourself!)

With everyone stuck at home, a lot more quality content are propping up online for us to see, and this might be the chance to learn some new online recipes! There are lots of cooking tutorials and online recipes nowadays for you to learn, or better yet, record one yourself and get some audience online! Surprise your family with new delicious dishes or share your family recipe to the world through YouTube or IGTV! Psst... SweetEscape is having our own online recipe video in the coming weeks, so stay tuned for that!
