Winter has passed, flowers are blooming, and a new season has come! Spring is celebrated extensively in most part of the world with joy and excitement, and more-often-than-not with unique and colourful festivals! Take a look at some that we've complied to inspire you for choosing your next spring-break holiday destination!

1. Songkran Water Festival (Thailand)

by Kann for SweetEscape in Bangkok

Our first spring festival is Songkran, also known as the Thai New Year. You will definitely love Songkran, because this festival is a good excuse for adults and kids alike to sprinkle, spray or even flush others with water in a kingdom-wide water fight, from the streets of Bangkok, to mountainous Chiang Mai, all the way to the sandy beaches of Phuket! The Thai people believe that water is spiritually purifying, cleansing us from any bad luck or grievances for the past year, and blessing us with renewed fortune and happiness for the coming year. This extremely fun festival is fittingly held every April, which is Thailand's hottest month of the year!

2. White House Easter Egg Roll (USA)

by Feldy for SweetEscape in Washington DC

The White House Easter Egg Roll is a timeless tradition that dates back to 1878 under President Rutherford B. Hayes, held on the White House South Lawn in Washington D.C. each Easter Monday for children aged 13 and younger and their parents, hosted by the current President and the First Lady. The Egg Roll is basically a race, where children push an egg through the grass with a long-handled spoon, while other activities such as live music and decorated Easter eggs exhibition happen around the lawn, encouraging kids and young people to live healthy and active lives.

3. Holi Festival (India)

If you plan to visit the beautiful New Delhi, Jaipur, or Agra for holiday, why not come in late March to join the explosion of colours in the Holi festival! Holi is a Hindu spring festival celebrated in India and Nepal, and is super-popular among tourists as well. Also known as the Festival of Colours, participants splash each other with multi-coloured powders, signifying the victory of good over evil, the arrival of spring, and thanksgiving for good harvest. It is also a great occasion for locals to meet others, play and laugh, forget and forgive, and repair broken relationships. Get ready to be fully covered with colours!

4. Ching Ming Festival (China)

by Daniel for SweetEscape in Beijing

Also known as the Tomb-Sweeping Day, Ching Ming Festival has been celebrated by Chinese people for over 2500 years. During Ching Ming, celebrated every April 5th, Chinese families all over china--from big cities like Beijing, Shanghai, or Guangzhou to small vilages across the vast land--make a trip to visit the tombs of their ancestors to clean the gravesites, pray to their ancestors, and make ritual offerings such as flowers, food dishes or burning joss sticks and joss papers, showing the reference Chinese people have towards their ancestors. Other popular thing to do during Ching Ming is to fly kites in the shapes of animals or characters from Chinese opera.

5. Bloemencorso Bollenstreek (Netherlands)
